Duality between partial coherence and partial entanglement

چکیده
Entangled-photon pairs ~biphotons! generated by spontaneous optical parametric down-conversion exhibit a number of properties that are analogous to those of ordinary photons generated by incoherent sources. The spatial pump-field distribution and the two-particle wave function in the biphoton case play the respective roles of the source intensity distribution and the second-order coherence function in the incoherent case. The van Cittert–Zernike theorem, which is applicable for incoherent optical sources emitting independent photons, has a counterpart for biphotons. Likewise, the partial-coherence theory of image formation has an analogous counterpart for biphoton beams transporting spatial information. However, an underlying duality, rather than analogy, accompanies the mathematical similarity between incoherent and biphoton emissions if the comparison is made between the photon count rate in the incoherent case and the biphoton count rate in the entangledphoton case. The smaller the size of an incoherent source, the more separable is the coherence function and the more coherent is the field, and therefore the higher the visibility of ordinary interference fringes. In contrast, the narrower the size of a biphoton pump source, the more separable is the wave function and the less entangled is the field, and therefore the lower the visibility of biphoton interference fringes. This duality is similar to the complementarity between single and two-photon interference exhibited for biphotons.

Entanglement of an Atom and Its Spontaneous Emission Fields via Spontaneously Generated Coherence
The entanglement between a ?-type three-level atom and its spontaneous emission fields is investigated. The effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on entanglement between the atom and its spontaneous emission fields is then discussed. We find that in the presence of SGC the entanglement between the atom and its spontaneous emission fields is completely phase dependent, while in absen...
متن کاملThermal effect and role of entanglement and coherence on excitation transfer in a spin chain
We analyze the role of bath temperature, coherence and entanglement on excitation transfer in a spin chain induced by the environment. In Markovian regime, we show that coherence and entanglement are very sensitive to bath temperature and vanish in time in contrary to the case of having zero-temperature bath. That is while, finding the last qubit of the chain in excited state increases by incre...

In this study, we consider a composed system consisting of two identical non-interacting subsystems. Each sub-system is made of a moving qubit into a leaky cavity. The study of the dynamic of the composed system revealed that compared with the stationary qubits, entanglement, quantum discord and coherence between two moving qubits remained close to their initial values as time went by. In parti...

متن کاملEntangled States with Positive Partial Transposes Arising from Indecomposable Positive Linear Maps, Ii
In the paper under the same title, we have constructed entangled states with positive partial transposes using indecomposable positive linear maps between matrix algebras. In this paper, we show that every entanglement with positive partial transpose arises in this way.
